Operating a remote control system.
A remote control system is composed of a set of electronic equipments, installed within or near the control panel, gathering information regarding the operation of the system (electrical values, alarms, etc.), collecting and recording any data of about the individual lighting points and transmitting to the control center. Electronic modules, optional, installed near the lamp, to collect the measures relating to lamps; a single PC or server, even cloud, with one or more channels of communication, capable of receiving data from the equipments installed in control panels, doing analysis, providing data and sending messages (e-mail, sms) to the technicians available.
With the possibility to switch on and off each individual luminarie, together with its dimming level.
Example of configuration
The typical configuration of remote control systems in small and medium size public lighting plants, in which the switchgears controlled are not so numerous, generally consists of an individual control center, mainly equipped with a PC and with a set of modems. The whole amount of information is exchanged between the PC and the control panels. In such case the control center represents the only tool to monitor and control the lighting installation.
In case many different switchgears are to be controlled, or it is necessary to share and process the information collected among different cities or work stations, the remote control shall be obtained through the server/client configuration, with several PCs connected on the same network. Information shall therefore be exchanged not only between server and panels, but within the network itself as well.
A third solution, intermediate, is the web server. Applicable mainly in small and medium-sized towns, where the manager does not have the technical resources to maintain an active PC or Server, the connection is made between field devices and a server located at Reverberi Enetec’s premises.
The traffic is billed directly to you, because we use a GPRS connection. The customer is accessing data through an Internet page, made available by Reverberi Enetec, paying a fee.
The same solution is applicable in the case of operators with their own IT structure: the system server/client can include the web interface, managed by him.
ASSIL (Italian Association of Lighting Manufactures) process a 4 level classification.

The “point-to-point” remote control system allows to extend communication up to the individual luminaires. It significantly contributes to the intelligent planning of maintenance and trouble prevention activities.
The control center may be an individual or peripheral one, designed to share the information gathered.
The OPERA system is providing an effective and definite solution to any requirements in the field of remote control, for it is:
- Complete: composed by electronic modules (DIM, RAM, MEM, IOM, LPM, LPR, LPC, LPL), meets needs of either limited applications (individual plant) or those of the largest plants (lighting management in cities, districts, regions).
- Flexible: the modularity offered by both installations on field and the software (available in three versions) permits whatever change at any time. Supporting the standard communication protocols as well (MODBUS and TCP/ IP), this system is up to offer a boundless versatility: communication with the PLC, sensors, actuators and other devices is easy.
- Configurable: any solution is tailored to the actual needs of users: what needed, where needed, in the right moment.
